Glucosamine

Glucosamine is a naturally occurring compound which plays a role in the maintenance of the cartilage and connective tissues in the joints. With age, the body's natural supply of glucosamine is depleted, leading to a susceptibility for arthritis and other joint problems. Glucosamine supplements are often taken to help with joint pain, sports injuries and general connective tissue support.

Young athletes under connective tissue stress also use up a high level of glucosamine, making it a popular supplement among sport enthusiasts. Taking glucosamine supplements also helps reduce pain and inflammation, another bonus for athletes. The main sources of glucosamine are glucosamine sulphate, shark cartilage and green-lipped mussel.
