Iron

Iron plays a vital role in the transportation of oxygen in red blood cells, helping to improve energy. It is also involved in other body functions including brain function and metabolism. Iron is a poorly absorbed mineral and many people prone to low iron levels choose to supplement with iron to help prevent anemia. Iron also helps strengthen the immune system.

High doses of iron can cause intestinal upset and constipation, therefore it is recommended that you choose a supplement that has been specifically designed to be gentle on the stomach. Taking your iron supplement with vitamin C significantly improves iron absorption. Vitamin E and zinc, on the other hand, should be taken separately as their absorption is impaired when taken in combination with iron.
