Zinc

Zinc is one of the most important trace minerals. It is essential for healthy skin, immune system function, hormonal health and a healthy reproductive system. Zinc also helps to heal wounds and burns more quickly. Without adequate zinc, our sense of smell, taste and vision can be affected. Dietary sources of zinc include red meat, chicken, seafood, dairy products, legumes and nuts.

A woman's requirement for zinc increases during pregnancy as it is needed during the development of the embryo and fetus. Vegetarians may also need to supplement their diet with zinc as it's often difficult to absorb or get enough of the mineral from plant based food. Zinc is available in a variety of forms including zinc citrate and zinc picolinate.
