Protein

Protein is responsible for building and repairing body tissue. After water, protein is the most plentiful substance in our bodies and a continous supply is needed for cell building and regeneration. Protein molecules are composed of amino acids linked together in a structural chain. Proteins are either complete or incomplete; complete proteins promote growth while incomplete proteins lack the full complement of amino acids to promote growth.

The most common food sources of protein are meat, fish, seafood, eggs, dairy products, nuts, seeds, whole grains and legumes. It is important for vegetarians and vegans to consume more vegetable source proteins (such as legumes and wholegrains) and learn the simple rules of protein combining to ensure all of the amino acids are present in the diet.
