The word aromatherapy means '"treatment using scents". It refers to a particular type of herbal medicine that uses concentrated plant oils called essential oils to improve a person's physical and emotional health as well as restoring balance. Each essential oil has its own individual scent and healing properties, that makes aromatherapy one of the most popular available complementary therapies. Essential oils are not taken internally, they are applied to the skin through massage, used in baths, oil burners, inhaled by adding 2-4 drops of oil into a bowl of steaming hot water, or used as a compress. The oil molecules enter the bloodstream and are carried to every part of the body.
