Hay Fever

Hay Fever is an allergic reaction to pollen that affects the sinuses, eyes, nose and throat. Allergic reactions occur when the immune system over-reacts to normally harmless substances. Puffy watery eyes, itching, runny nose and sneezing are all common hay fever complaints. Pollen allergies tend to relate to the climate and vegetation of the country e.g. grass pollen is the most common allergen in Ireland while olive tree pollen is the most common in Spain.

Supporting your immune system is extremely important during hay fever season. Vitamin C with bioflavonoids supplements can help reduce symptoms while essential fatty acids such as those found in fish oils and evening primrose oil, can help prevent aggravation. Taking vitamin A and E together for three months before the season begins has also been shown to help alleviate hay fever.
