Constipation & IBS

Constipation, difficulty in passing stools, is a very common ailment. It occurs when waste passes through the intestines too slowly, often caused by a low fiber, high sugar diet, medication, parasites or stress. Waste needs to be elminated through the bowels on a regular basis otherwise toxins are formed and absorbed, leading to headaches, bad breath and skin problems. You can help combat constipation by eating a diet rich in fibre.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is another common complaint. It is often caused by a poor diet or food sensitivities. Increasing dietary fibre is essential to alleviating IBS. Flax seeds are an excellent source of fibre as are psyllium husks. Taking Lactobacillus acidophilus and other similar probiotics will also help promote a healthy intestinal balance. B vitamins are also invaluable in promoting proper digestive function.
